There is no shortage of advice about retirement. Books, articles, websites – all by the bucket load. How many of them, however, are actually written by the only people who are really qualified to speak about retirement: retired people themselves? Too few. This website aims to fill that gap. There are so many things that you can do in retirement. You can travel, write, set up businesses, take up new hobbies, volunteer in your local community...the list goes on. In fact, one of the great challenges is working out what your options are and how to make the most of them. There are other challenges too. Adjusting to life outside full-time employment can be a struggle and the financial pressures can feel pretty crushing. It is just not possible to find all the right answers by yourself and it would be nice to be able to take well-informed advice. I hope that this website will make that possible. Dragonelm exists so that people can share their experiences of retirement, seek and give advice about it and make sure that more people have better retirements. It also exists so that we can collect information about retirement that might be useful in formulating Government policy regarding employment, pensions, tax etc and so that we can begin to think about how to make it easier for people to have successful retirements.
That, of course, could leave the site feeling rather earnest so it includes all the other standard benefits of a networking site. You can have your own blog and comment on the issues of the day. You might be able to renew old acquaintances and we hope that you will make new friendships. I hope that you will want to sign up, use the site and encourage others to join. The more people who use the site the better it will be but it has only just been set up and needs your help to become a success. Please keep coming back and please encourage others to join. Sign up now - it's a good way to start retiring better!
