Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning – Winston Churchill
Twenty-first century retirement is at least as much a beginning as an end.
People retiring today do so in better health and with more to offer than any generation in history. That is both exciting and intimidating; it is an opportunity and a challenge.
Other rites of passage are well-trodden paths. When people leave home, get married or start a family they can draw on centuries’ worth of advice. Modern retirement is different – no one has done this before. For the first time in history people are leaving their careers in their fifties or sixties while still having lots to give; and decades left in which to give it. That can be a daunting prospect – especially when you don’t have anyone whom you can ask for advice.
This website aims to fill that gap. The only people who can speak with authority about the possibilities and pitfalls of modern retirement are those who are actually doing it. This site aims to gather that collective wisdom.
Modern retirement means the chance to write that novel, found that business, set up that community project. It means an opportunity to take up new hobbies, learn new skills and meet new people. All of that can be exciting but little of it is easy. This site aims to help out.
If you have questions about how you can make the most of your retirement or suggestions about how others can make the most of theirs then we want to hear from you.
Retirement is just the beginning…
